Terms of Reference
Provides financial assistance to young chemists who are showing unique achievements in basic research by facilitating their participation in international conferences or symposia.
Deadline: December 31
Value: The maximum value for a single award is $10,000 however applicants may re-apply in subsequent years, provided the cumulative total of all awards does not exceed $15,000.
Eligibility:
- Be a member of the Canadian Society for Chemistry or the Chemical Society of Japan;
- Not have passed his/her 34th birthday as of December 31 of the year in which the application is submitted
- Have a research specialty in synthetic organic chemistry;
- Be scheduled to attend, within one year, an international conference or symposium directly related to synthetic organic chemistry.
NOTE: Conferences taking place in January to March of each year should be applied for a year in advance in order to receive funding in time for the conference.
The number of applications to be recommended by the society is limited to 10 per year. Although the awards are intended primarily for established researchers, applications from post-graduate students and post-doctoral fellows will be considered. However, only one application per year from a graduate student can be recommended to the Fund.
Applications: Applicants must include a .pdf file containing the following documents
- a résumé, including date of birth
- copies of recent research papers
- the title and brief description of the conference the applicant wishes to attend
- the title (and abstract, if available) of the research paper the applicant intends to present
- a proposed budget
- applications from graduate students must be accompanied by a letter of reference from the research supervisor
Recipients of awards must submit a report immediately after a conference.
